Mentoring Workshop with Sarindar Dhaliwal

SAVAC is proud to offer its membership a program of mentoring workshops with Sarindar Dhaliwal.

Sarindar Dhaliwal is a visual artist based in Toronto. She was born in the Punjab, raised in England and moved to Canada in 1968. She has shown extensively in Canada over the past twenty years and also served on the boards of the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Toronto Arts Council and Fuse Magazine.

SAVAC members are invited to take part in this exciting program where they will work one on one with Sarindar Dhaliwal to articulate their artistic goals and develop strategies to achieve them. The process is flexible and geared to the needs of the individual artist whether you are a student, a person in another field interested in moving into the visual arts, an emerging artist or an established artist. Some people may only need one meeting while others may need several meetings over a few months.

SAVAC strongly encourages SAVAC members to apply to this free program. Submissions will be accepted immediately and on an ongoing basis until September 15, 2002. However, submissions will be adjudicated on a first-come first-serve basis until the spots are filled. So apply early if you can!

Submissions must include a current resume/cv and a one-page letter describing the kinds of artistic goals you hope to achieve in the next couple of years. Your goals may be in terms of education, exhibitions, grants, bodies of work, new directions etc. This letter is to help Sarindar determine how she can work individually with each artist to enable them to move to the next level or stage of their careers. Please also send some visuals (slides or photographs) to convey an idea of the kind of work you do. Sorry we do not accept cd roms. The mentoring workshops will begin in August 2002.

The mentoring workshops with Sarindar Dhaliwal continued in 2003 and 2004.

"SAVAC is a rare and exciting organization spanning community and contemporary art. I have been lucky enough to be invited as a curator for the Monitor program, which gave me a extraordinary chance to consider moving image work from South Asia and the Diaspora. SAVAC is a high point on our cultural landscape." -- Richard Fung
