Gallery 401, 401 Richmond St. W. (Suite 240)

Opening reception: 4 June 4, 7-10pm

This exhibit features a multi-desciplinary array of work by six women visual artists of the South Asian Diaspora. Alia Ghani Toor, Karma Clarke-Davis, Jaishri Abichandani, Anoka Faruqee, rachel Kalpana James and Neena Arora open up artistic dialogues as they re-invent their artistic, cultural and historical traditions. Naya Samachar deals with the re-contextualization of cultural motifs, the deconstruction of beauty and heritage and the creation of new spaces in a quest to create 'home' in the Diaspora.

There will also be a satellite exhibit, Desh Pardesh:Artist Salon, taking place at Area Space (401 Richmond Street West)

Gallery 401, 401 Richmond St. W. (Suite 240)
Hours: Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm

"SAVAC is a rare and exciting organization spanning community and contemporary art. I have been lucky enough to be invited as a curator for the Monitor program, which gave me a extraordinary chance to consider moving image work from South Asia and the Diaspora. SAVAC is a high point on our cultural landscape." -- Richard Fung
