Geeta Kapur has written and lectured extensively on contemporary Indian art and is the author of when was Modernism: Essays on Contemporary Cultural Practice in India and Contemporary Indian Artists. Her recent work extends to cinema and issues in culture studies. She is a founder-editor of Journal of Art & Ideas, and advisory editor to Third Text. She has held fellowships at the Indian Institute of Advanced study, Shimla, and Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi.
Ms. Kapur will deliver a lecture entitled, Body Language: the Visual Arts in Contemporary India on iconography, iconoclasm and other figural makeovers in the visual arts of contemporary India, addressing the new languages that the body still commands and the allegories that spell its mortality.
