In collaboration with Toronto South Asian Review (TSAR)

Art and Literature come together for one extraordinary night at the historic Gladstone Hotel. SAVAC presents an exhibition preview of new paintings by Frances Ferdinands, and TSAR Publications present the launch of their Fall 2003 titles.

Reading from their works will be Raywat Deonandan (Divine Elemental; novel), Wayson Choy (Strike the Wok: An Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Canadian Fiction), Rita Nayar (Ordeal by Fire; memoir), Rienzi Crusz (Gambolling with the Divine; poetry), and Cyril Dabydeen (Hemisphere of Love; poetry).

Toronto artist Frances Ferdinands gives an artist talk and exhibits four paintings from her new series Embodied Ideals. Ferdinands' paintings are diptychs referencing art history and advertising which encourage a re-assessment of ideals such as originality, desire, beauty and culture.

"SAVAC has been instrumental in my career, allowing me opportunities and resources to expand my artistic practice. They supported my first efforts in video art and recently presented my first solo show---as a result my practice is now expanding into areas I never expected. Thanks to SAVAC my efforts to make better work have been realized, and I am now speaking to presenters and festivals across Canada and internationally." -- Debashis Sinha
