Tuesday, 31 May. 6-9pm
Emily Carr Institute. 1399 Johnston St, Granville Island, Vancouver, B.C. Lecture Theatre, South Building Room 328
In partnership with TRIBE
Tribe, A Centre for the Evolving Aboriginal Media, Visual and Performing Arts Inc. and SAVAC, the South Asian Visual Arts Collective sent out a call for Artists, Curators or anyone interested to answer a questionnaire designed to address the similar status between the First Nations and South Asian arts communities. SAVAC and TRIBE collaborated in order to bring forth recognition of their similar status as artist-run-centres without a gallery space and as ARC’s that serve specific cultural communities. This dialogue begins the building blocks of an ongoing relationship between the two communities and the organizations.
The panel will consist of artists and academics from both cultural communities; discussants will include Zainab Amadahy (Toronto), Dana Claxton (Vancouver), Rachel Fouladi (Victoria), Nadia Kurd (Toronto), Ashok Mathur (Vancouver), Pravin Pillay (Saskatoon) and Adrian Stimson (Saskatoon).
This ongoing relationship and dialogue between our communities will culminate in an art project/exhibition of Aboriginal and South Asian artists.
Please join us in our panel discussion and post-panel reception at Emily Carr Institute. You can also meet the panelists at a pre-panel reception at the Grunt Gallery, #116 -350 East Second Avenue, Vancouver on Monday, 30 May, 7pm to launch the Redwire website.
