Considered among the freshest of the new Contemporary British artists are twin sisters Amrit and Rabindra Kaur Singh. Known as "The Singh Twins", they work individually or together to create award-winning, jewel-like paintings inspired by Indian miniature painting. Combining wit, political satire and spirituality, they succeed in transforming the "traditional" miniature into an new artistic genre which allows them to explore their life as Asians living in the West while at the same time challenging Eurocentric tendencies and stereotypes in Modern Art.
The Twins have a history of significant exhibitions in museums and galleries internationally including Birmingham City Art Gallery, Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art, Royal Museum of Scotland, Canadian Museum of Civilization and Museo Cantonale d'Arte, Switzerland, to name a few- and currently have invitations to exhibit in the US, Netherlands and India. They have received wide media attention which includes several documentary profiles- the most recent, Alone Together, won Best Artists' Biography, at this year's International Festival for Art Films, Italy.
The Twins present a lively and provocative visual introduction to their work through slides and storytelling- presenting themselves as a united front within a collaborative partnership- dressing the same, exhibiting together and making a point of not putting name labels on their work.
